Joe Nominated by Son of Angels of Hope Director to Attend Lions Game
Meet our new friend Joe!
We met Joe and his awesome dad, Paul, through the Angels of Hope Foundation. Jackson, the son of Angel’s of Hope Director Steve York, nominated his buddy Joe to win our Wicked Awesome Wish and he was our special guest at the Detroit Lions vs Cincinnati Bengals game!
Wish Letter
Stephen & Chad,
I am submitting this request on behalf of my 10-year-old son, Jackson. He plays extreme flag football for the Sterling Heights Lions. Recently I took my son to his practice and the team was signing a football for their teammate Joe Van Sickle. I learned that Joe’s mom had cancer and the team was doing that as a goodwill gesture for a fellow teammate.
I later learned that Joe’s mom, Jennifer — the mother of two small boys (Joe is 10 and has a younger brother, Ben) lost her battle to cancer on September 23.
My own son had a very difficult time (as did I, only thinking about losing my wife in the same manner). I can’t imagine what Joe and Ben are going through.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a mom at 10 years old, and nothing will bring Jennifer back or fill the hole in a 10-year-old’s life. I do know that getting to meet players would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and would leave a positive impact on the well being of a 10 year old.
Thank you for considering our friends Joe and Paul for your Wicked Awesome Wish!
