A Family's Fight
Jason LaBell, beloved cousin of Makenzie Matthews, has faced significant health challenges over the past few months. His troubles began in May when he was hospitalized with a perforated colon caused by diverticulitis, which nearly cost him his life. After a month-long hospital stay, he was sent home with an ileostomy bag. In September, as Jason prepared for a reversal surgery, alarming blood work results led to further tests, including a bone marrow biopsy, which confirmed he had acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive form of leukemia requiring immediate treatment. On September 6th, Jason was transferred to Corewell Health Dearborn to begin chemotherapy and other intensive treatments, which will result in significant medical expenses and extended hospital stays.
Meanwhile, Makenzie, who has been tirelessly seeking help for Jason, has faced her own personal health struggles. Over the years, she has undergone a heart procedure, stomach surgery, and several hospital stays, including some out of state. More recently, she has experienced a loss of feeling in her legs, with no clear diagnosis. Despite these challenges, Makenzie remains a strong support for her family and those around her.
In an unexpected turn, the team at Lady Jane's Haircuts for Men in Southgate, who have known Makenzie for many years, stepped in to offer their support and seek additional help for Makenzie unbeknownst to her. Because of everyone's efforts, Wicked Awesome Wishes and Lady Jane's Haircuts for Men were able to offer financial assistance to help ease the burden on Makenzie and Jason as they focus on their health and future ahead. Our team was truly honored to be part of their journey and cherished every moment spent with them!
